New YA Novel: Zoe Rosenthal is Not Lawful Good
Miriam Newman at Candlewick has bought Edgar Award winner and National Book Award finalist Nancy Werlin’s Zoe Rosenthal Is Not Lawful Good, the story of a high school student who finds herself torn between secretly attending sci-fi cons with fellow “Bloodygits”—as fans of her beloved show, Bleeders, are known—and a type-A boyfriend who disdains the show. Publication is set for spring 2021; the author represented herself in the deal for world rights in all languages. (Publishers Weekly, July 8, 2019)
Teaching: Nancy will be mentoring four writers (and be available to the other attendees) at the Highlights Whole Novel Workshop in beautiful Boyds Mills, PA, from August 16-22, 2020. Here’s a video of Nancy describing her teaching.
The Whole Novel Workshop offers writers the rare opportunity to have the entire draft of a novel read and critiqued prior to the workshop, followed by a week of intense, one-on-one mentoring and soul-filling communion with fellow writers. Superb food and your own little cabin round out the week.
Other mentors: novelists Sarah Aronson, Jennifer Jacobson, Crystal Allen, and Ashley Hope Pérez.
Additional faculty: workshop leaders Nicole Valentine and Rob Costello, and writing coaches Melissa Wyatt and Alisa Alering.
Limited to 20 participants in each workshop, the Workshop fills up fast, so for your best chance, apply on the Highlights site as soon as you know you want to come.
