Locked Inside

U.S. Hardcover (Delacorte, 2000)
U.S. Paperback (Dell Laurel-Leaf, 2001)
I like this cover pretty much. I think they were afraid to depict Marnie as the book describes her, with her short-cropped bleached blonde hair and her heavy makeup and chains, so they hedged their bets by fading out around her face. But that's okay, because I think they got the face right. Those are certainly Marnie's eyes. And the background color—well, I like purple.

British (HarperCollins Flamingo,
2003)
Yes! Did I get lucky in my British publisher or what? I think this cover perfectly evokes the mood of the book. And the murky green gives an underground feeling without being explicit about it.

Dutch (Kluitman Alkmaar, 2003)
This is the cover that comes closest to showing what Marnie really looks like, though she doesn't look as angry and defensive as Marnie would be. If you could marry this girl's hair and clothes to the expression and features of the girl on the cover of the U.S. edition, then that, I think, would be my Marnie.

Spanish (Ediciones SM, 2003)
Steamy! Is this my book, or is it an ad for Victoria's Secret? And who is that girl on the cover? It can't be Marnie, since she has very short bleached blonde hair. But I must say, I'd pick up this book (when I thought no one was watching me) to see what is was about.
